Two panels from the horror comic. I like how they’re looking, but I think they might still be in the pencil stage…
Me and the other first year grad students at MCAD are having a group show. The even bigger news than that, though? I’m going to do a painting for the show! The working title is, “BEST PAINTING EVER,” but I might change it to, “Best. Painting. EVER!” It’s going to be my first gallery painting, so if your in Minneapolis any time between March 19th and May 7th, you’d better come check it out. And, if you really like it, it will only cost you this much.
And, yeah, I guess all the other grads’ work is all right, too.
Copy and paste-able info after the jump.
So, school is back in full mutha-effin’ swing, me and the lady are trying to get some wedding stuff together and I’ve got a shit ton of comics to get done, so I haven’t really be posting up a storm. But class has been awesome so far, and I scored a few teaching gigs to help pay for the wedding, so hopefully the comics ‘ll come along. In any case, here are some more pencils from the horror story:
I promise there is more to it than some jerk in a suit. Also, image uploading issue, FIXED!
I’ve mostly been doing homework and paperwork type work for the last day or two, so I don’t have a ton of non-spoiler type panels to show, but here are some pencils from a panel in the horror comic:
Scary, huh!? I’m not sure if those are final FINAL pencils. I think the faces could be a bit clearer. Also, I don’t know if the room they are in is light or dark, so I might have to add in a ton of sweet moody horror shadows. But I’m pretty happy with it so far. Anyway, once it’s inked I’ll post the final panel.
A few more prep sketches for the horror comic. A marine and a dude in a suit. Terrifying, I know. Hopefully next post, I”ll have some work on the actual pages to post. It will be chilling, for sure.
So, the other day, I got in a fight with my boss. She said that this was the best Blondie song, and I said this was. It was actually a huge fight, and I don’t know if my job is waiting for me on Tuesday. Also, I might have looked like a racist, because I kinda forgot it’s MLK Day on Monday…
Anyway, in honor of that Blondie song that I like but don’t think is the best, here are two versions of a gray tone test I worked on a bit today. These were drawn in Photoshop super quick for reference in the horror story I’m working on. It’s the same room, but with two views. One from in the closet and one from not in the closet.
These aren’t really refined drawings, but the comic is going to be black and white, so these are just sorta tests for different ways to play with some gray tones. I’m thinking of just using white, 25%, 50%, 75% and black in the finished art.
That’s it for now.
